Shuffling the cards…

Hearts in a nutshell

Hearts is a four-player card game where you try not to win the wrong cards. Each heart you take costs 1 point and the Queen of Spades costs 13. The game ends when someone reaches 100 points, and the player with the lowest score wins.

  1. Deal 13 cards each. Shuffle and deal the whole pack, so each of the four players has 13 cards.
  2. Pass three cards. Choose three cards to pass. Pass to the left, then right, then across, then keep them, in turn.
  3. Lead the 2 of clubs. The player holding the 2 of clubs leads it to the first trick.
  4. Follow suit. Everyone must play a card of the suit led if they can. If not, they may play any card.
