Snake in a nutshell
Snake is a simple arcade game where you steer a snake around the screen to eat apples. Each apple makes the snake longer and adds to your score. The game ends if the snake bumps into a wall or into its own tail.
- Start moving. Tap to start. The snake then moves forward on its own. You only choose which way it turns.
- Steer the snake. Swipe, tap the arrows or use the arrow keys to turn up, down, left or right.
- Eat the apples. Guide the snake's head onto an apple to eat it. A new apple then appears somewhere else.
- Grow longer. Each apple makes the snake a little longer and adds to your score.

Snake questions
Can the snake turn around?
Not straight back on itself, because it would run into its own body. You can turn left or right, and then turn again to head back.
Does the snake speed up?
In many versions the snake gets a little faster as it grows. Here it keeps the speed you choose in Settings: Slow (the default), Normal or Fast.
Can the snake go through the walls?
In the classic game, hitting a wall ends the game, and that is how we start you off. Choose soft walls in Settings to let the snake wrap round and come out of the opposite side.
What is the best way to get a high score?
Move in tidy patterns, such as back-and-forth rows, so your tail is always out of the way. Avoid trapping yourself in a corner.
