Setting out the tiles…

Tile Merge in a nutshell

Tile Merge is a sliding number puzzle on a 4 by 4 grid. Swipe to slide every tile at once, and when two tiles with the same number touch, they join into one tile worth double. Keep joining to build the 2048 tile before the board fills up.

  1. Start with two tiles. The game begins with two tiles on the grid, each showing a 2 or a 4.
  2. Swipe to slide. Swipe up, down, left or right. Every tile slides as far as it can in that direction.
  3. Join matching tiles. When two tiles with the same number meet, they join into one tile worth both together, such as 8 and 8 making 16.
  4. A new tile appears. After every move, a new 2 or 4 appears in an empty square.

Tile Merge questions

Is Tile Merge the same as 2048?

It is inspired by a popular sliding-number puzzle from 2014, often known simply as 2048, and it follows the same basic rules.

Is there a time limit?

No. Nothing happens until you swipe, so you can take as long as you like over each move.

Can I keep playing after reaching 2048?

Yes. You can carry on to build 4096 and beyond, until the board fills up.

How is the score worked out?

Each time two tiles join, the value of the new tile is added to your score. Joining two 64s, for example, adds 128.

Why did a tile not join twice in one move?

A tile can only join once per swipe. A row of 2, 2, 4 slid to the left becomes 4, 4, not 8. You need another swipe to join the two 4s.
